Hosting the Solstice Party this Year
I’ve kvetched before about the Great Old Ones not seeing each other often enough, but at least one tradition hasn’t changed: the annual Solstice Party. It’s my turn to host, and no complaints there. R’lyeh looks lovely. Some of the geometry was getting a little Euclidean, but I re-terrified the angles and it’s all very Cyclopean again. I’ll be cooking for the party, of course, I’m an excellent chef and no one would dare disagree with me lest they incur by wrath.
For the past few years we’ve also done a Christmas party in conjunction because it’s fun and ironic (the lesser-known Ancient Ones have mostly hipster cults). But I saw that the Solstice falls in the middle of Hanukkah this year and I thought, Hanukkah that’s a good holiday. It’s eight days, which is eight days of parties, and I’ve had a Jewish cookbook just sitting on my shelf for Azathoth knows how long. Plus there are fun activities like candle-lighting and dreidels, all of which I can horrifically appropriate.
I’m so excited. This is going to be the best Winter Solstice/Hanukkah Party ever.
